Favorite restaurant logo designs [January 18]

Each month I share 5 hospitality logos that deserve some attention. In this post: restaurant logos. Restaurant and café logos that have their own unique touch or style. Logos that truly represent the brand. I hope these logos inspire you to come up with the best logo for your own restaurant, café or coffee shop. Whether you’re just starting out or are in the process of rebranding. Enjoy!

1: HUISMAN

Brasserie Huisman in The Hague is a lunch-drinks-‘n-dinner place. They aim for a cosy cosmopolitan style. The kind of restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious coffee, filling sandwich or talk all night over a good glass of wine. Their logo is authentic, the illustration makes it stand apart and communicates.

2: LeDu

LeDu happy dumplings is located in Munich, Germany. Although their website looks pretty awful, I do like their logo. The letters remind me of the Chinese script in a western way.

3: Soumi

Soumi is a Soups And Bánh Mì place in Munich. With a variety of mouth-watering dishes on their ‘Speisekarte’ (menu), script fonts and a few pretty pictures, they’re on the right track. Too bad the last picture on their Instagram dates May 2017… Guys, you could do so much more with your social media! (Feel free to contact me 😉)

4: Bøg

I love this logo for the Nordic restaurant Bøg in The Hague. It’s bold, simplistic, minimalistic and stylish. The ø functions extremely well and immediately communicates were talking about a Nordic restaurant. I talked to Erik Cox, designer of this logo who told me more about the design process.

“For this logo Peter (from Bøg) referred to a logo I previously created in 1992, for Hotel New York in Rotterdam. He liked the simplicity of that specific logo: it barely looks like it was ‘designed’. This is something you are only able to realize as a designer by simplifying the logo over and over again throughout the design process.”

“The used font for the corporate identity is ‘Transport’. A rustic, clear and sans serif font designed in 1960 for traffic signs in England. Denmark uses another variant of this same font so it made sense to use this for the identity of Bøg (as it’s a Nordic restaurant).”

“The ø is a typical character in the written Danish and Nordic language. For this reason, the choice was made in the typeface of ‘Bøg’ to focus on the ‘ø’. By doing this the character is able to function as a logo on its own.”

5: Wagners

Wagners is a place for good food and a healthy lifestyle in Munich. It’s here where visitors come to calm down, refuel and enjoy an atmosphere in which they can find new inspiration. Although Wagners website still leaves something to be desires (I think it could definitely be improved with some simple touches), the logo is good. It is colorful, uses the right colors for a ‘healthy’ place, and has a little bit of a unique touch thanks to the border: not your average circle, but filled with a pattern. They should be using this same pattern throughout the website and other media if you ask me.
